Fabulous Fangirl Friday to you all!
I’ve been to the dentist twice now this week, both for the same stupid temporary crown. All I can say is: It’s a darned good thing I actually like my dentist. And I am *so* happy that she gives me valium.
It’s been spectacularly sunny and warm here in gray ol’ Seattle-town, although the clouds moving in tonight make me wonder if it’s going to last. We’re both hoping that Saturday, at least, is full of awesome weather as we have a date with friends and their bbq.
I’m even making red velvet for the occasion. You *know* it’s going to be a good time when Snarkstress busts out the baking pans.
Pictures may, or may not, be forthcoming. So that you, too, can marvel at my baking-fu.
I’ve also been working a LOT on recording a new audiobook for a fantastic author. A book that, may I share, is amazingly good and leaves me incredibly humbled to be a part of. The characters are so rich and so much fun, the story is addictive, and, um, the sexiness in it? Un.Be.Lievable. I’ll share more when it’s available because, seriously, it’s a fun read.
And speaking of great books, the fifth book in the Charlie Davidson series by Darynda Jones, “Fifth Grave Past the Light” was released this week and it’s been staring at me from my Kindle’s screen. I’ve only been able to read a couple of chapters (I know, bad Snarkstress!) but with as busy as I’ve been, well, you know. I plan to have it finished this weekend. Or at least by next Friday.
You’ll also notice over there that I’ve finally added a link to my Pinterest boards. Because Pinterest is the purest, most evil time suck ever. And I love it.
SO! Let’s talk about nails.
This week’s manicure was inspired by none other than our sexy She Hulk.
I decided to do something relatively simple, actually, but still sparkly and girlie enough to really do her justice. Just because she turns into a giant, green skinned, rawr-beast doesn’t mean she doesn’t like to glam it up from time to time, right?
Let me pause for a ‘mo and ask if I’ve mentioned just why DL’s TBT basecoat is my favorite of all time? No? Then I’ll keep it short and sweet: This basecoat is incredible. It really does make your bare nail look so fresh and pretty that I’ve been known to just slap a coat of that on and am good to go. Hell, I’ll use it as the base for my french manicures all by its lonesome.
It’s really that awesome.
So anyway, I picked up the China Glaze in this particular shade because I already had a deep, forest sparkly green and I wanted something a little closer to Shulkie’s skintone in the comics. She has this golden green thing going on with her skin, so when I saw this color, I knew it would be perfect.
As for the glitter, I’ve wanted to do a glitter manicure for a while that didn’t involve using glitter polish. I think the actual loose glitter is easier to apply right where you want it without the unfortunate side effect of glooping up your nail. The color, Abyss, is a beautiful deep purple that I figured was versatile enough to use both in Shulkie AND Hulkie nails.
And after playing around a bit:
Like I mentioned before, patting that gorgeous glitter on was the hardest part, really.
And, oh look! I have a bunch of polish-haul pictures too! Which I will share because that’s how awesome I am. I do plan on doing a bunch of swatch photos on them all, but for now, just a preview of some of the things to come:
I’ve seen a bunch of matte manicures and the potential in this bottle is, well, endless.
This was a gift to me from a friend. It’s really quite gorgeous a glitter.
And I’ve lately developed a bit of a fascination with grey polish:
Dragon actually leant his opinion on one of my latest acquisitions:
Another trend I’ve been fascinated by, but hadn’t quite taken the plunge into is the whole cashmere/fuzzy nail thing. So when I saw that there were vials of it on offer at our local Freddie’s, and for the STEAL of a price of under 3 bucks, well, I really didn’t have a choice, you see:
I also got my hands on some nail beads:
So yeah. Lots of niftiness coming up soon.
Okay guys, you can come back now.
Let’s do a quick run through of the week in gaming, movies, n’ television.
Still playing the Sly Cooper Collection. On the second game, and it’s frustrating as all hell. I think the part that bugs me the most about this particular installment comes down to being forced to play as both Murray and Bentley at more than a few points in the game. I would seriously *much* prefer to just play as Sly for the whole thing.
The HUGE Steam Summer Sale is going on now, by the way, with some pretty substantial discounts on games for the PC. I finally picked up Bastion (for less than $3. Seriously.) so I’ll be giving that a whirl when I get a chance.
I also have to recommend Poker Night 2 if you are at all a poker player who has a thing for colorful partners (read: Glados as the dealer, Brock Samson, Ash, and the robot from Borderlands, just to name a few) with some great dialogue. I, unfortunately, seriously suck at poker. But I enjoy the game enough to not care how dismally bad I am at it. lol.
I almost, aaaaalmost picked up Amnesia. Unfortunately, while getting sucked into the trailer, a scream sounded and a giant spider appeared on the wall in front of me at the same time. Needless to say, my Arachnifoes will soon discover that I have sticky traps set out for them. They will soon fear my sticky wrath.
As they freakin’ should.
I’ve got high hopes that Skyrim will get discounted enough to make it worth picking up for the PC. Because, you know, it’s not enough that I have the PS3 and XBox versions.
Look, I love me some Les Mis. When I heard they were turning the musical into a movie, I was skeptical. And I still am. Like Dragon said, it didn’t really start picking up for him until the second half, and even then … I don’t know. The sets were gorgeous. The singing was, for the most part, really quite good. Who knew Anne Hathaway had such an awesome range? And don’t EVEN get me started on Amanda Seyfried’s pipes. Holy cow. Dragon started calling her Songbird, and I have to agree.
I just kept having a hard time watching Hugh Jackman and NOT think, “Look! Wolvie’s singing!”
Not atrocious, but I’m glad I waited until it released on DVD.
Wonder Woman (2009)
Dragon watched this one a while back, thinking I’d been paying attention watching it with him. I had not. First off, Nathan Fillion as Steve Trevor. O.M.G. Awesome and perfect and all things amazing. Keri Russell did a really admirable job as Diana, and I was seriously rolling every time Artemis (voiced by the gorgeous Rosario Dawson) made an appearance. Ares was appropriately menacing and even Hades had a distinct presence. Overall, I was quite impressed.
Even if I was, the whole time, finding myself uttering out loud, “Wait, that’s not how her origin goes.” Creative license, I guess. I’ve said it before: DC knows how to make awesome comic movies. In cartoon form.
Okay. So the idea of this, loosely based on actual events, was really intriguing. The cast was definitely studded with stars (Ryan Gosling, Sean Penn, Josh Brolin, and Emma Stone, I mean really.) and the details were pretty sharp for this period piece. The dialogue didn’t seem stilted (although, I’ll admit, I was having a hard time with RG in his role a few times because the words sounded a little… forced) but overall, it’s an interesting movie that kept me entertained for a good long while.
FINALLY! Seriously, the rest of the season needs to have these great high points. Keep it up, TB and I won’t get bored. I’m not a fan of a few of the storylines this season, but there are enough interesting tidbits going around to keep my attention.
I just… no words. This show has totally stolen my geeky little heart. I’ve loved it from day one and I continue to do so. We need more Brock, though. Just sayin.
The hardest part for us this year is that we BOTH think there are so many great dancers on the lineup that it’s really tough picking non-favorites. But oh. mah. gawds. That Paso Doble? With Amy and Fik-Shun? Holy crap. That was amazeballs.
Yeah, we’re watching it. Cheeseball factor hits the stratosphere with this, but we giggle our way through anyway because…predictable. And it’s like everyone on there is in on the joke. The bitchy, cattiness is already starting to escalate to dramatically hilarious proportions. And the deaths… gods. HilARIOUS. Is it a good show? No. But it’s damned funny.
Another hysterically funny Syfy show we’ve been checking out. If you haven’t seen it and you want to lose it laughing, well, here you go. A bunch of people all put in a pitch black room and asked to identify or make their way through various obstacles. Their reactions are pee-yourself funny. Seriously.
New to our line up, although it’s been on the web for a while already, I have so much fun with this show. Because there’s nothing like asking someone who’s drunk and chatty about history. Oh the things you learn. Also? Adam Scott as Boothe had me crying with laughter.
I think that’ll do it for this week.
Until next week!
